American University Washington College of Law is pleased to offer the Public Interest
Loan Repayment Assistance Program (PILRAP) to WCL alumni who are serving the
public through government and non-profit employment. PILRAP helps relieve
economic burden imposed by educational debt by providing loan repayment assistance
for JD graduates who work in full-time, non-profit or government employment in which
the graduate is engaged in serving under-represented or traditionally marginalized
populations.

American University Washington College of Law is pleased to offer the Public Interest
Loan Repayment Assistance Program I (PILRAP-I) to WCL alumni who are members of
the Class of 2007 and before. PILRAP-I helps relieve economic burden imposed by
educational debt by providing loan repayment assistance for JD graduates earning
$50,000 or less while working in full-time public service employment.
Public Interest Loan Repayment Assistance Program II
For graduates of the Class of 2008 and After
American University Washington College of Law is pleased to offer the new Public
Interest Loan Repayment Assistance Program II (PILRAP-II) to WCL graduates of the
Class of 2008 and after.
PILRAP-II helps relieve economic burden imposed by
educational debt by providing loan repayment assistance for JD graduates earning
$75,000 or less while working full-time in public service employment. This updated plan
dovetails with the federal government’s Income-Based Repayment (IBR) plan and Public
Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Applicants earning $50,000 or less are eligible for up
to 100% loan repayment assistance on all federal student loans, while applicants earning
between $50,001 and $75,000 are eligible for loan repayment assistance on a prorated
basis. PILRAP-II award calculations are based on the assumption that applicants have
selected IBR as their loan repayment plan. While applicants are not required to select
IBR as their repayment plan, WCL will calculate awards as if the applicant has done so.
There is no guarantee that applicants will receive, in whole or in part, the award amount
for which they are eligible. Determining factors include the number of applications
received and the availability of funding.
