INSTRUCTIONS FOR NYPD RETIREES
Note: These instructions apply to NYPD retirees who are New York City Residents ONLY.
We recommend that approximately 2 weeks before your retirement processing date you hand-deliver the
following materials to One Police Plaza, License Division, Retiree Section, Room 110A:
Completed handgun license application (PD643-041), which must be typewritten (a form-fillable pdf is
available online for this purpose).
One (1) recent color photograph (1 ½ X 1 ½), passport type, front view.
Fingerprint fee of $91.50. This fee may be paid by credit card or by money order (Postal or U.S. Bank)
made payable to the New York City Police Department (License Division). This non-refundable fee applies
to all applicants.
The Firearm Removal Inquiry form, the Affidavit of Familiarity with Rules and Laws form, the
Acknowledgement of Person Agreeing to Safeguard Firearms form, and the Affidavit of Co-Habitant
form.
On your retirement processing date:

Bring your ID card stamped “RETIRED” to the License Division, One Police Plaza, Room 110A
All NYC Police Department retirees must submit their Pistol License Inquiry Response form (PD 643-155)
(also known as a good-guy letter) and their Property Receipt /Discontinuance of Service form (PD 520-
013). Firearms do not need to be vouchered provided that a license will be issued on or before your
retirement day.
Follow instructions of License Division personnel regarding the license issuing procedure.
Important Note: When you deliver your handgun license application documents, you must inform the License
Division of your anticipated retirement date.
A retired law-enforcement handgun license will not be issued to you if you did not receive a Pistol License Inquiry
Response form (PD 643-155), a.k.a. “good-guy letter,” or if your retiree identification card is stamped “no firearms.”
You must have the restriction lifted prior to receiving your license.
