BRIEFING CHECKLIST
Ensure that the following points are covered in your OIC’s Briefing at the commencement of
the DET as a minimum:
Overall purpose for the activity, and OIC’s intent.
Introduction of directing staff and key appointments.
That AAFC and ADFC Behaviour Policies apply on this DET, including no member – staff or
cadet – making any actions of comments that reflect against someone in a personal way, or refers to
their race, gender, culture/religion or sexuality in a pejorative manner.
Discuss the AAFC OH&S Policy and that Safety is a critical responsibility for everyone. Discuss
any risks identified in the RAMP and the mitigation steps to be taken.
That all members of the DET have the right to approach you directly if a breach of the above
behaviours occurs or is suspected, or a member feels any concern about such an issue.
That no cadet is to have in their possession or consume alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, weapons or
offensive materials of any kind. That staff are to abide by AAFC policies on alcohol and tobacco
products.
State that no cadet is to enter the quarters of the other gender (unless accompanied by a member of
the directing staff on duties).
Remind all cadets of allergy management policies applicable to the DET, inc discussing any issues
with staff, and that cadets are not to share or swap food or use each other’s cutlery, crockery, utensils or
drink bottles
Ensure cadets are notified who the designated first aider is and where/how they can be contacted,
and remind all cadets of the importance of informing that member of existing conditions and
medications.
Provide cadets with contact mobile numbers in cases of emergency.
Inform cadets of out of bounds areas, boundaries of the activity, and dangerous areas nearby.
Remind cadets of the importance of fluid intake.
That all members are briefed on issues related to ADF bases, including movement around base, and
photography rules (as applicable).
Any other specific points applicable to the DET.
For Field Camps only
All members have been briefed on Actions on Lost.
Briefing of safety issues related to specific terrain/area has occurred.
