APPLICATION FOR MORTICIAN LICENSURE APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Please complete the application and required addendum by providing all of the requested information. All requested information and
fees must be provided. Failure to provide a complete application will result in it not being reviewed by the Board. Your signature
must be notarized and the appropriate fees must be attached. Submit the completed form to the address noted above. To be considered
by the Board, the Bureau must receive properly completed applications at least sixty (60) days prior to the date of the examination.
EXAM APPLICANTS
All applicants for an Idaho license who are not currently licensed in another state must serve a minimum of 1 year as a Resident
Trainee under the direct supervision of an Idaho licensed mortician and successfully pass the required sections of the International
Conference of Funeral Service Examining Board National Exam (Rule 325.01a) and the Idaho State Law Examination.
For the Mortician license the following are required:
A Resident Trainee Final Report signed by the Supervisor on file showing that you have assisted in embalming at least
twenty-five human bodies and assisted in making at least 25 funeral arrangements and conducted at least 25 funerals under
supervision.
A completed application, passport style photo, and fees. Approval to take the exam will not be given by the Board until your
application is complete and has been reviewed by the Board.
An official transcript showing 60 semester credits from an accredited college or university (45 of the credits must be in
liberal arts, business, or science).
An official transcript showing completion of a course of at least one year in an embalming school accredited by the American
Board of Funeral Service Education, Inc.
Official score reports from the Conference of Funeral Service Examiners on the Arts and Sciences portions of the National
Examination.
Upon receipt of all the above, the Board must approve the application and the Idaho State Law examination must be passed.
NOTE: All materials and supporting documentation must be on file with the Bureau before you are approved to sit for the
Idaho State Based Examination. You must have an application on file for Board review for the Idaho State Based
Examination to the Bureau of Occupational Licenses BEFORE you contact The Conference to sit for the examination. The
Conference must receive approval from the Board before you are allowed to sit for the State Based Examination. Following
passage of The Conference Exam, all applicants must also take and pass the Idaho Law and Rule exam. This exam is
scheduled by contacting the Bureau of Occupational Licenses.
ENDORSEMENT APPLICANTS
If you hold a current, valid license in another state or territory with requirements substantially similar to those in Idaho and have less
than 5 consecutive years experience prior to application, you must:
(a) Submit a complete application; and
(b) Include official documentation that the license was issued under substantially similar requirements; and
(c) Cause to have submitted a certified statement from the examining board of the state or territory in which you hold a license,
verifying licensure and showing the basis upon which the license was granted; and
(d) Pay the required fees.
If you hold a current, valid license in another state or territory with requirements significantly lower than those of Idaho and have at
least five (5) consecutive years of experience prior to application, you must
(a) Submit a complete application; and
(b) Pay the required fees; and
(c) Pass such test of proficiency as the board shall require.
All applicants for an Idaho license must successfully pass the Idaho State Law Examination.
