2) This rule also applies to words ending in “x”, such as Xerox, Karl Marx, etc.
For example, a machine belonging to Xerox is Xerox’s machine or Xerox’ machine, or Karl Marx’ theories or Karl
Marx’s theories.
3) To show joint ownership, make only the last noun possessive. To show separate ownership, make both
nouns possessive.
For example:
My mother and father’s house.
My mother’s and father’s clothes.
Plural Possessives (All of those are mine.)
Showing possession by a group such as men, women, children, and people--these words are already plural, so to
make them possessive, simply add apostrophe “s”.
For example:
The men’s room (more than one man has ownership)
The women’s room (more than one woman has ownership)
The children’s toys (more than one child has ownership)
The people’s choice (more than one person has a choice)
