Sample Charge Letter-Certified Employee
Dear
Pursuant to O.C.G.A. 20-2-940 (a copy of which is enclosed), I am writing to notify you
that effective immediately you are suspended with pay and I will recommend to the
(district name) that your employment contract be terminated. The basis for the
suspension and recommendation follows.
Specifically, I am charging you with incompetence, willful neglect of duties, and other
good and sufficient cause; to wit: failure to provide adequate student supervision
resulting in a dangerous environment; failure to follow and successfully complete your
PDP; unprofessional behavior; and failure to respond sufficiently to the assistance and
guidance that has been provided to you. Your inaction and failure to manage your
students effectively has become a threat to the safety and security of the students under
your supervision.
Since you began teaching in the (date) you have engaged in pattern of failing to maintain
adequate student supervision. For example, on one occasion you left a student
unattended (facts). On another occasion you left a student unattended (facts). You were
given a reminder following both of these incidents that your actions were inappropriate
and you were directed to maintain appropriate supervision of your students.
Additionally, you have failed to comply satisfactorily with your job duties and
responsibilities. You have been made aware of these concerns via meetings with your
assistant principal as well as district staff. Specifically, you were provided with training
and guidance regarding the Georgia Alternative Assessment (GAA) and your
responsibilities thereto; classroom management, including being provided with best
practices for classroom management; strategies for teacher/paraprofessional interaction
and collaboration; professional learning opportunities; and observation of two special
education (type) classrooms. These observations were designed to provide guidance in
best practices for the (special education type) classroom. Despite these interventions, you
have failed to improve to a satisfactory level. In fact, during your observation of an
experienced teacher at (school name) you once again demonstrated a lack of judgment by
leaving a student unattended during a painting activity. You also failed to make effective
use of your time by leaving the classroom during the observation for over an hour to
allegedly check your email.
Additionally, you have engaged in a pattern of unprofessional and rude conduct about
which you have been warned and given a letter of direction from your principal. Several
of your colleagues have made reports of unprofessional interactions with you. You have
been notified that your interactions were inappropriate and directed to interact
professionally with employees and parents.
Moreover, your evaluations over the course of the school year show that you have not
reached a satisfactory level of performance despite the assistance that you have been
