Miss Green and I are very pleased with the progress of all the students this marking period.
We are very proud of the enthusiasm and interest in learning that the students are showing at
this time. What a wonderful group of students!
The transition into the upper elementary grades can be a challenge; all the students certainly
appear eager and ready for the expectations of this grade.
We are starting to work on multiplication time’s tables. Along with this math concept we are
doing reciprocal math facts and introducing division facts. All the students can work on
memorizing the multiplication time’s tables to 10 x 10 before the end of the school year. Any
home activities to help with this process are greatly appreciated. This is key math goal for the
upper elementary grades.
Daily reading at home is very important at this age. The general rule of thumb is at least 10-20
minutes daily. The students can either read silently or read out loud. Reading levels can
change depending on the interest of the student’s choice of books. Consider daily home
reading practice to be an on-going homework assignment. Homework at this grade should
not be longer than 30 minutes daily. So include our reading as one of the weekly
assignments.
The students are doing fantastic on the spelling program. Please consider working on-line at
home with the spelling words. This certainly counts as homework too. Keep practicing the
words weekly.
We will be starting Cursive Writing after winter break. We will also be starting Keyboarding
and Word Processing at the same time. Please remember that at this grade we just focus on
home row finger placement, key strokes and not words per minute.
Thank you again. If you have any question please email me.
