Good morning. My name is Gretchen Gates, Community Relations Director for Back on

My Feet. On behalf of my organization and the more than 700 nonprofit members of

United Way of the National Capital Area, I want to thank [agency or company name]

for the opportunity to be here today and to share with you the tremendous impact your

contributions have on the lives of hundreds of thousands of area residents supported by

our nonprofit community.

Explain your organization’s mission and how you work to help individuals, families and our

Back on My Feet is a local non-profit that uses running as a way to engage individuals

experiencing homelessness and move them toward self-sufficiency. We do not provide

food or shelter, but rather we create a positive supportive environment whereby people

feel they can accomplish their goals and move forward in life. The BoMF experience is

anchored in teams comprised of resident members and non-resident volunteers who

meet and run each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:45am. For members who

maintain 90% attendance or greater, they enter the Next Steps phase of the program

where they find access to our network of partner organizations offering educational

opportunities, job training programs, employment & housing assistance, as well as

financial aid. It is by working together with our partners that we ultimately accomplish

our mission of moving individuals forward and toward self-sufficiency.
