2. You may also claim Credit for Teaching directly from the AMA by completing the AMA Direct
Credit Application.
To claim credit for teaching from the AMA, you will need to submit a “direct credit application”
which can be found at
forms.page
Presenters may claim AMA PRA Category 1 Credit for teaching at certified CME activities, which
recognizes the learning that occurs in the preparation of an original presentation as part of an AMA
PRA Category 1 Credit live activity.
 No credits are given for repeat presentations of the same material.
 According to the AMA, it is the responsibility of the physician to only claim the credit
once, and credit may not be simultaneously earned as both a presenter and learner.
 The formula for granting such credit is 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits per participant
credit (or a 2:1 ratio). Credits awarded based on time metrics, credit can be designated in
15 minute increments. Thus, for a 1 hour presentation, you may claim 2 credits.
Please note:
AMA Fee:
The AMA will assess a fee, which varies on the status of your membership in the AMA. However, the
AMA encourages you to submit your credit for teaching application to cover multiple teaching
assignments, and charges by the application, not by the number of credits.
Other Direct Credit from the AMA:
This form will also allow you to claim AMA PRA Category 1 credit for other educational activities
(such as preparing a poster, publications, completing recertification, etc.).
We suggest that you accumulate these types of activities and periodically submit them on one form
as a cost effective way to earn your credits for credentialing, licensing, or other requirements.
