Louisiana Revised Statute 17:416 permits that any pupil after being suspended on three occasions in one
school year may, on the fourth suspension, be recommended for expulsion. Your son/daughter has been

The Child Welfare and Attendance Office will be contacting you to establish a date and time for your child’s
hearing which will be held at his/her school. The student must attend the hearing and must be in
compliance with the student dress code. You are urged to personally attend his/her hearing; you
may bring witnesses and legal counsel to provide information or evidence during the proceeding on behalf
of your child.
If you are unable to attend the hearing because of a serious emergency or circumstance, you may be
represented by someone of your choice. A permission letter from the parent must be presented to the
Hearing Officer so that the person in attendance may represent you and your child.
The Hearing Officer represents the Superintendent of Lafayette Parish Schools and will
determine whether your child is expelled or readmitted to the school system.
