Job Description
SUMMARY
The Retail Buyer works at the direction of the Chief Financial Officer and is primarily
responsible for planning and selecting a range of products to sell in Pacific Whale Foundation
retail outlets as ratified by the Product Review Committee, and is responsible for accurate data
and smooth operations of the Retail and Internet Stores.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Regional Manager & Retail Buyer sources new merchandise and reviews existing
products to ensure product mix remains competitive. By fully understanding customer
needs, Regional Manager & Retail Buyer is able to maximize profits and provide a
commercially viable range of merchandise at competitive prices. Keeping up to date with
market trends and reacting to changes in demand are key elements of this job.
Additionally, Regional Manager & Retail Buyer is responsible for all aspects of the smooth
operations of the Retail and internet stores, developing and communicating standard
operating procedures, and providing a clean, safe and productive work environment while
maximizing sales.
Essential Duties
 Analyze consumer buying patterns and predicting future trends;
 Review performance indicators, e.g. sales and discount levels;
 Manage plans for stock levels;
 React to changes in demand;
 React to changes in logistics;
 Meet suppliers and negotiating terms of contract;
 Maintain relationships with existing suppliers and sourcing new suppliers for future
products;
 Liaise with other departments within the organization to ensure related retail projects are
completed;
 Attend trade fairs, in Hawaii and the mainland, to select and assemble a new collection of
products;
 Participate in promotional activities and works with Marketing Department to develop
sales and advertising programs for merchandise;
 Write reports and forecasting sales levels on a weekly and monthly basis;
 Present new products and offerings to Product Review Committee;
 Manage plans for stock levels & creating buying plan within budget parameters provided
by management and / or Product Review Committee
 Liaise with retail personnel to ensure product/collection supply meets demand;
 Seek merchandise feedback from customers;
 Manages timely entry and maintenance of purchase orders and final orders.
Track the status of requisitions, contracts, and orders.
