Job Description
Responsible to and reports to:
Head of Web Services
Responsible for:
Web Developers (currently four posts)
Main Function of the Job:
To manage the technical infrastructure / framework for the delivery of Web Services and
to be responsible for the workloads and activities of the Web Developers.
As the technical lead to work with the Head of Web Services to:
deliver a University website which bears comparison with the Universities
competitors and is structured as a customer-focused, market-facing, corporate
resource;
prioritise projects in accordance with institutional priorities; preparation and
realisation of business and operational plans;
provide advice and guidance on web issues across the University, including working
closely with all others involved in web provision, and advocacy for the further
development of the University’s web presence through new and emerging
technologies.
Main Tasks:
1.
Lead and establish priorities for, and manage subsequently, the day-to-day work of
the Web Developers;
2.
Determine and manage the technical infrastructure/frameworks to deliver robust,
secure and reliable web applications and services;
3.
Along with the Head of Web Services monitor pro-actively the utilization and
effectiveness of the University’s use of web technologies and applications
4.
Embed and manage effective quality control processes for the development of
applications,
5.
Advise on and plan for future developments, including preparation of requirements
specifications;
6.
Provide professional support and work pro-actively with all such staff involved in
the web across the University;
7.
Contribute to the management and direction of Web Services and deputise for the
Head of Web Services when necessary
8.
Work with the Web Content Manager to develop a content and publishing method
that minimises duplication of effort and content, ensuring information is accurate
and up-to-date and allows publishing from one source to various formats (e.g. print
and web) simply
9.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in web technologies and
applications, in order to provide professional advice to the University.
10. Develop and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of higher education in general.
