Dear Family,
I would like you to play a game with your child in which you use your fingers to
add. Have your child show all 10 of his or her fingers. Then show some of
your fingers. Ask, How many fingers in all? For example, if your child shows
all 10 of his or her fingers and you show 7 of your fingers, there are
17 fingers in all. Do this a number of times. Each time, ask your child how
many fingers he or she sees. Ask your child to draw a picture of the fingers
for one of the numbers and to write the number below the picture.
In class we will organize the pictures by putting together all the pictures that
show 11, that show 12, etc.
