Background
Enventure Research is currently working with Guildford Borough Council to undertake a doorstepping
campaign aimed at promoting the correct use of recycling services to residents across the Borough. The
campaign aim is to increase awareness, understanding and ultimately participation of the waste and
recycling services provided by the council in specific target areas, engaging with residents and motivating
them to recycle through direct interaction on their doorstep.
Duties and responsibilities
Recycling Promoters will be required to speak to residents in order to increase awareness, understanding
and participation in the waste and recycling services. Key responsibilities will include:
Knocking on all doors in the areas allocated to you by your Team Leader
Working as part of a team to ensure your allocated areas are fully covered daily and targets are
achieved
Talking to residents informing them about the recycling services available
Encouraging residents to participate and utilise the recycling services
Providing residents with relevant information and advice about the recycling services and
promotional materials such as leaflets and information packs
Helping residents overcome barriers to recycling and answering any questions
Taking orders for recycling containers if required
Keeping accurate records of the specific households visited each day
Providing feedback to your Team Leader on a regular basis
Meeting daily/weekly targets
Work within health and safety rules and guidance
In addition to the duties of being a Recycling Promoter, Team Leaders will also be required to:
Organise meeting points and plan daily work schedules
Ensure punctuality of team members
Supervise team members to ensure that they are meeting their requirements
Update the Project Manager on team progress on a regular basis (verbally and through reporting)
Keep accurate records, complete relevant paperwork, update logs and the return of paperwork and
equipment to the Project Manager
Log team in and out each day with Project Manager
Submit daily timesheets for team members
Personal Specification
Essential
Ability and willingness to engage confidently with members of the public in a clear and assertive
manner
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work well as part of a team to meet performance targets
Interest in waste, recycling and environmental issues
Good organisational skills and ability to work without direct supervision
Ability to work outside in all weather in small teams
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and occasional additional hours
Willingness and ability to travel to and around Guildford
Desirable
An environmental qualification or related experience
Clean driving licence and access to a vehicle
