The Tricycle
The Tricycle is a unique force in British theatre that is renowned nationally
and internationally for its innovative political and verbatim theatre. It is
acclaimed for its commissioning programme of new work that responds to
contemporary social and political issues, and work that reflects the cultural
diversity of its local community.
Its mission is to present accessible work of the highest standard in theatre,
cinema and visual arts, with a distinctive voice responding to the local diverse
community as well as maintaining a national and international profile.
Educational work has the highest priority.
Its artistic policy is to:
Produce new work, and present world classics to a new generation
Promote and celebrate work which represents the diverse culture of
Brent and the surrounding community
Present work for children and provide participatory and training
workshops for children and young people, particularly the
disadvantaged
Produce work which challenges national and international injustice
and inhumanity
The Tricycle comprises a 235 seat theatre, a 300 seat cinema, a large
rehearsal studio, a visual arts studio for educational use -the Paintbox and
two workshop spaces, the James Baldwin Studio and the August Wilson
Creative Space for educational and social inclusion workshops. There is an
Art Gallery, presenting exhibitions of new work and which is well used by
patrons of The Tricycle’s Café/Bar.
The Tricycle is one of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio of regularly
funded organisations and is also funded by Brent Council. It is a registered
charity.
