The Tucson Symphony Orchestra (TSO) welcomes nominations and applications for the position of
Vice President of Development. We seek an experienced, energetic, and creative person to lead the
organization’s philanthropic programs.

The first professional symphony orchestra in the Southwest, the Tucson Symphony Orchestra is the
longest continuously performing professional arts organization in Arizona, where it impacts more
than 120,000 lives each year. Now in its 87
season, the TSO infuses $20 million into the economy

of Southern Arizona annually and employs over 75 professional musicians who live in Tucson and
perform here and throughout the state.
In addition to performances, the TSO provides the most in-depth music education programs in all
of Arizona. With more than 300 education and community engagement programs annually, the TSO
reaches more than 60,000 children and adults. In the 2013-14 season, the TSO’s nationally-
recognized education programs were present in 120 schools from Southern Pinal County to the
Arizona-Mexico border. These programs include a series of free performances for families entitled
Just for Kids, Music in the Schools, Making Music Mine, KinderKonzerts, Young People’s Concerts,
Master Classes and the Young Composers Project classes and reading sessions.
Recent fund development successes include a $1M bequest to endowment in 2014, our first
endowed orchestra chair in 2015, the launch of a musician-centric donor initiative called Partner
with a Player in 2015 and the anticipated naming of the TSO’s 17
Music Director in 2016, around

which considerable fundraising opportunities will be pursued. Fiscal 2015 annual fund giving grew
by 19% year over year and we experienced unprecedented growth in new and lapsed donor giving.
Donor retention exceeded the targeted retention goal by 18%, Board giving increased by 32% and
the board increased its minimum giving commitment.
