The Tucson Symphony Orchestra Vice President of Development is responsible for leading the efforts
and overseeing an annual fund of approximately $1.6 million dollars in public and private support. This
senior staff position serves a team of three development administrators and multiple volunteers and is
responsible for the development and implementation of all fundraising efforts, including the annual
fund, major gifts, business and corporate sponsorships, grant proposals, and donor events. The Vice
President of Development has primary responsibility for conducting programs in annual giving,
planned giving and endowment campaigns within the highest standards of professionalism and ethical
conduct to ensure the ongoing and long-term stability of the organization.
Responsibilities__________________________________________________________
Meet aggressive growth goals for fund development and increase the base of contributed
support as aligned with institutional goals.
Lead, plan, manage, and implement all aspects of fundraising programs.
Assist the President & CEO and Board in establishing appropriate goals for the fund-raising
campaigns each year.
Develop a plan for achieving those goals and establish a master calendar that outlines all
fundraising events and campaigns.
Develop and manage annual budgets for the Department.
Create and arrange strategic opportunities for the President & CEO and Music Director to be
engage in donor cultivation and solicitation.
Lead and foster fundraising activities for the Board of Trustees, Development Committee
members and Board Vice President for Development, in order to achieve institutional
fundraising goals.
Lead the effort to identify, cultivate, and recognize new and existing major contributors to the
TSO.
Oversee the solicitation and acknowledgment process, maintenance of records, and disclosure
within IRS guidelines of donor benefits, based on sound, ethical fundraising principles.
Develop and steward the corporate sponsorship program.
Lead, hire, train, manage, and evaluate the performance of all Development staff, including
interns and volunteers.
Actively participate and report at meetings of the Board of Trustees , the Finance Committee, the
Development Committee and other committees as assigned.
Demonstrate leadership in the recruitment and coordination of volunteers and facilitate their
training.
Maintain ongoing contact with contributors, corporate sponsors, and business and community
leaders.
Keep abreast of recent research on fund raising; maintain a collection of current fund-raising
resource materials.
Attend civic and cultural events in the community; represent the TSO by speaking at public
events as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
