Shower Spray Controls. In accessible bathtubs and shower compartments, sections 607.6
and 608.6 of the proposed standards will require shower spray controls to have an on/off
control and to deliver water that is 120°F (49°C) maximum. Currently, neither feature is
required by the 1991 Standards, but may be required by plumbing codes. Meeting the
latter specification will require either controlling the maximum temperature at each
shower spray unit or at the hot water supply.
Shower Compartments. The 1991 Standards at sections 4.21.2; 9.1.2; 4.21.5; and 4.21.7,
and the proposed standards at sections 608.1; 608.2.1; 608.2.3; 608.4; 608.5.3; and 608.7,
Exception contain technical requirements for transfer-type and roll-in shower
compartments. The proposed standards provide more flexibility than the 1991 Standards
as follows:
