UIDANCE
PPOINTMENTS
A counselor may initiate a guidance appointment. The student will receive a GUIDANCE APPOINTMENT
SLIP from his/her counselor through their teacher. On the day of the appointment, the student must , FIRST
REPORT TO HIS/HER SCHEDULED CLASS and obtain the teacher’s signature on the appointment slip.
They may, THEN, report to the counselor for his/her appointment. Students should be expected to return to
class, with a pass signed by the Counselor.
Students initiate a conference, by obtaining a GUIDANCE CONFERENCE REQUEST form from their teacher.
Once this form is completed, the teacher will forward it to the counselor. The counselor will send for the
student via a Guidance Appointment Slip (see above). Students are also encouraged to make appointments with
their counselor during Career & College Center hours.

In order to begin employment, whether after school or during vacation time, all persons between the ages of 14-
18 are required by the Child Labor Law of the State of New Jersey to obtain an employment certificate, usually
referred to as “Working Papers.” The following procedure is necessary to secure your employment certificate:
1) Obtain the necessary form from the Guidance office, completing the sections:
a. Promise of Employment - to be completed by your prospective employer.
b. Medical Section - to be completed by the school nurse or your own physician.
c. School Record - to be completed by the Guidance Office
*only after all other sections of the form are completed.
2) Return the completed form to the Guidance Office, along with a photocopy of your Birth Certificate or
Baptismal Certificate, or Immigration Certificate. Your employment certificate will then be issued
for presentation to your employer.

1) To provide information about college, with respect to cost and course offerings.
2) To send required information to the colleges upon the request of the student.
3) To check that students have proper courses for college admissions.
4) To assist students in identifying colleges with programs that will support identified majors and post
graduation plans.

1) To send for college applications and college catalogs in the junior year (at least three colleges) and, if
possible, assist with campus visits
2) To study college applications and bulletins carefully
3) To determine whether the college offers the desired major
4) To be informed of entrance examinations and deadlines
5) To obtain teacher recommendations
6) To send appropriate fees with applications
7) To ensure completion of required college entrance examinations (SAT, ACT)
