It is the Mission of the Guidance Department to promote an atmosphere that will lead to identification of career
choices and training that are aligned with students’ strengths, interests, values, and personality type. Career
counseling takes place in one-on-one or in group sessions.
The Career & College Center has been established to provide career and college-related information and
resources for all students at Irvington High School. Guidance counselors are assigned to the Career & College
Center throughout the day, including extended early and after-school hours. The Career & College Center hosts
college presentations and instant decision sessions that students may attend with a special pass from the
guidance department. Early in the year, sign-up sheets are maintained in the Guidance Office. In addition, a
resource library is available with career, ACT, SAT, and college resources for student use. The Career &
College Center is equipped with computers to assist students with interest inventories, college & career
searches, as well as resume preparation. Students must obtain passes from Guidance, to visit during extended
hours.
