LIGIBILITY
a. To be eligible, a student must have passed 25% of the Irvington Board’s requirements for
graduation. Since a credit system is not used in the elementary schools, freshmen are excluded
from this requirement.
b. To be eligible, a student must have also achieved a 2.0 grade point average during the preceding
school year.
c. A student who has met the NJSIAA requirements, but not the Irvington board policy for
eligibility, may enter a probationary support program in order to participate. Guidelines for this
support system must be approved by the Board of Education.

LIGIBILITY
a. To be eligible, a student must have passed 12.5% of the Irvington Board’s requirements for
graduation at the conclusion of the first semester (first and second marking periods).
b. To be eligible, a student must have achieved a 2.0 grade point average for the first semester.
c. A student who has met the NJSIAA requirements but not the Irvington Board policy for
eligibility may enter the probationary support program in order to participate if he/she meets the
approved guidelines of the Board of Education.
In consultation with the Director of Athletics, Principal and parent(s)/guardian(s), a student may be declared
ineligible for failure to comply with school rules and regulations regarding tardiness, class cutting, and proper
behavior both in school, on the athletic field, and in the community.
Any student involved in the use of alcohol or drugs not of a medical nature will be removed from all eligibility
lists for a period of time to be determined by the School Principal and Director of Athletics.
All students must also meet the following attendance requirements:
● Any student eligible for Fall and Winter sports becomes ineligible after 7 unexcused absences
from school until an appeal, if filed and approved by the Attendance Office.
● Any student eligible for Spring sports becomes ineligible after 15 unexcused absences (non-
credit status) until an appeal is filed and approved by the Attendance Office.
● Any student who ends the year on non-credit status is ineligible the following school year.
● All special education students must meet the requirements outlined with his/her individual
education plan (IEP).

ROCEDURES
The Irvington Public Schools, in order to provide a quality academic support program for athletes and other
students involved in extracurricular activities shall provide a school based tutoring program. This program shall
be available to all District High School students but mandatory for those students wishing to participate in
extracurricular activities who are placed on probation according to the policy on student eligibility.
