FORENSICS/DEBATE TEAM
The IHS debate team participates in a minimum of 5 debate competitions.As a chapter of the NFLS&DHS,
members will earn merit points by attending competitions. These points will be used for honor certificates and
distinctions at graduation. As a member of the National Forensic League, members of the chapter pledge to
uphold the highest standards of integrity, humility, respect, leadership and service in the pursuit of excellence.
Members embrace all opportunities to think critically, develop academic research skills, improve
communication abilities, solve problems creatively and increase self-confidence.
THE CONSUMER BOWL CLUB
Established in 1997, the New Jersey High School Consumer Bowl is an educational competition for high school
students across the State. The Consumer Bowl educates young adults on a variety of consumer issues. It is an
award winning club, whose members participate in various competitions and teaches students about their rights
as consumers in a fun and exciting and competitive atmosphere. All participating students receive Certificates
of Achievement. Winners at the county and regional level receive trophies. First, second and third-place
winners at the state level, the final level of competition, receive individual medals and United States Savings
Bonds.
PEER LEADERSHIP
The Peer Leadership program is designed to teach juniors and seniors strategies in group dynamics, qualities in
becoming effective leaders, positive role models and respectable citizens. Peer Leaders will receive five
academic credits, and meet every other day. Classroom instruction is designed to teach members strategies that
include group dynamics, group facilitating and group support. Members will serve as role models for
Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior students by mentoring them during various opportunities.
ENVIRONMENTAL CLUB
The Irvington High School Environmental Club promotes students, staff, and community awareness about
strategies that will teach Irvington High School and the Irvington community how to go “greener”. Members
provide the community with Recycling bins to dispose of paper, aluminum, paper, and plastic and collects
recyclables weekly. Members provide the community with activities during Earth Week and participate in
garden efforts. The goal is to make the school community a healthier environment and prevent us from leaving
our carbon footprint on the earth.
FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA (FBLA)
FBLA is a nonprofit education association that prepares students for careers in business and business-related
fields. The FBLA is the premier organization for students preparing for careers in business and the largest
student business organization in the world with a quarter of a million members. Members develop competent
and aggressive leadership skills, create individual business projects, establish occupational goals, and practice
efficient money management.
LIBRARY COUNCIL
Members of the Library Council organize and maintain the High School library, help their peers locate and
research information via websites and library resources, assist with the yearly Reading is Fundamental book
distribution program, and read aloud to elementary students in the Irvington community.
ROBOTICS COUNCIL
Members of the Robotics Council incorporates STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, to
design, construct and program mechanical robotics for participation in robotics competitions. Teams prepare
for this competition throughout the school year to present their projects to the Irvington School students and
staff and to community members before final submission to all relevant competitions.
