FEDSTATE Generic Record Layout
Section 5.1 - FEDSTATE Generic Record Information
This publication outlines the transmission formats, character sets and validation criteria
for filing New Mexico individual income tax returns as part of the FEDSTATE e-file
program and provides software developers with information for capturing and formatting
New Mexico income tax data for a FEDSTATE return.
To facilitate the efforts of software developers, New Mexico supports the standards
developed by the Federation of Tax Administrators (FTA) Uniformity Task Force.
All IRS requirements must be adhered to in developing the New Mexico FEDSTATE
return.
Refer to IRS Publication 1346, Electronic Return File Specifications and Record Layouts
for Individual Income Tax Returns and IRS Publication 1345, Handbook for Authorized
IRS e-file Providers of Individual Income Tax Returns.
Record usage:
FIELD NUMBER
Reflects the sequence number of fields within a record format.
IDENTIFICATION
For IRS group-level fields, the IRS field name is used. For NM sub-divided fields, the
NM names are given. (Example: the IRS "Name Line 1" is sub -divided into NM "Primary
Last Name, Primary MI, Primary Title")
FORM REFS.
This is the New Mexico form reference number, which is used to provide a reference to
a particular line on a form. The generic record provides the layout for all New Mexico
forms that can be electronically transmitted: PIT-1, PIT-ADJ, PIT-CR, PIT-D, PIT -1-RC,
PIT-B and PIT -S. Form references are composed of the letter or number for the form (1,
ADJ, D, RC, B and S), followed by the line number. (i.e., ADJ-1a for line 1a of the ADJ
form).
FIELD LENGTH
This is total number of bytes for each field.
FIELD DESCRIPTION
The field description contains field type, value and validation criteria.
A = ALPHA - A through Z Upper case only; pre-fill with spaces.
